Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When skin of the upper eyelid weighs down the eyelid and interferes with the vision, this can cause functional visual problems and the procedure is often covered by insurance. Blepharoplasty is performed through an incision in the crease of the eyelid. A blepharoplasty on the lower eyelids can significantly improve the appearance of the mid-face and make a person look less tired.

A blepharoplasty can be done on an outpatient basis and results in some bruising and swelling of the eyelids for a short period of time after surgery.

Ptosis Repair

Blepharoptosis, or “ptosis,” refers to a drooping down of one or both eyelids over the pupil. Most cases are acquired later in life but there are congenital cases as well. When the eyelid droops down over the pupil, it can block the peripheral vision and cause difficulty with reading and driving. Ptosis can be corrected with surgery through an incision in the eyelid. Sometimes it can also be corrected with surgery on the underside of the eyelid. Surgery is done on an outpatient basis and results in some bruising and swelling post-operatively.

Ectropion Repair

Ectropion is a condition where the eyelid (most commonly the lower one) is turning out. This can cause the eyelid to appear abnormal and may cause symptoms like irritation, redness and tearing. Ectropion can be repaired with surgery on an outpatient basis and results in minimal to no visible scarring.

Entropion Repair

Entropion is a condition where the eyelid (most commonly the lower one) is turning in towards the eye. This results in the eyelashes rubbing the eye and causing irritation, redness, tearing and a foreign body sensation. Entropion can be repaired with surgery on an outpatient basis and results in minimal to no visible scarring.

Eyelid Cancer Surgery

A variety of skin cancers can occur on the eyelids, the most common being basal cell carcinoma. Accurate and skilled reconstruction after removal of a skin cancer leads to the best cosmetic and functional results. Most biopsies can be done in a few minutes in the office. Depending on the type of cancer and its extent, additional surgery may be needed to remove the cancer and reconstruct the eyelid. Surgery can be coordinated, if necessary, with a dermatologist performing Mohs surgery.
