Laser Vision Correction FAQs
Frequently Asked PRK/LASIK Questions
Come in for a PRK/LASIK consultation to see if you are a candidate. Our physicians and staff are specifically trained to qualify patients. Candidacy is determined by the health of the eye, analysis of special corneal images, and even the patient’s expectations. Our surgeons are involved every step of the way to keep our patients well informed.
There is no set age at which to have PRK/LASIK surgery. Most physicians will not perform PRK/LASIK on those under 18 because their eyes tend to keep changing into early adulthood—vision must be stable for at least one year before surgery.
Our cornea specialist Dr. Stephen Zuckerman, one of the first doctors in the U.S. to perform laser vision correction more than 25 years ago, performs all PRK surgeries. His colleague, Dr. Lorenzo Cervantes, performs all LASIK surgeries.
Surgery is performed at Inspire Laser Vision Center in Shelton, Connecticut. However, most pre-op and post-op appointments take place in our Danbury or New Milford office.
Our PRK/LASIK surgeons use the Wavelight Ex500 Excimer laser, which is the fastest available platform in the United States and offers a powerful multi-dimensional eye tracker. We have been using this laser for many years, with excellent patient results.
Payment for surgery, which includes all office visits for one year, is due in full at your pre-op visit.
Typically, no, and we do not submit to insurance. You can check with your insurance company to see if they will cover a percentage of the procedure. If they do, you will need to submit your receipt for the surgery (paid in full at your pre-op appointment) to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You should arrive 30 minutes before the procedure and MUST have a ride home afterward. You will be offered an optional oral sedative. To perform surgery, the eye only needs topical anesthesia in the form of drops. The procedure itself takes approximately 10 minutes per eye and is painless. Our patients, while awake, are comfortable. Total laser treatment time is measured in seconds!
You will be required to come to the office for a post-op appointment the day after surgery. Many of our patients take the day off, but this is not necessary.
